Torrisi Italian Specialties

Continuing on my sandwich motif, I've been meaning to write about Torrisi Italian Specialties, but only after having visited it. However, Serious Eats: New York beat me to the punch and has a sweet write up about it today. (Not to mention Nate Appleman has been raving about the joint since it opened - which only makes me want to eat there even more.)

Located at 250 Mulberry Street (and Prince Street), Rich Torrisi and Mario Carbone, both of whom have outstanding pedigree, are doing great Italian deli food, but here's the kicker - everything made is from domestic ingredients. So really, they're truly doing Italian-American cuisine (Progresso bread crumbs anyone?).

Check out this sweet slideshow of some food porn action that Serious Eats has of some of the items on the menu here.

As a fan of Faicco's Pork Store's Italian Special, I'm looking foward to trying Torrisi's version seen below.

And finally, here's a rather amusing video with an epic soundtrack that chronicles Rich and Mario's cooking history.

Gotta love the character building externs go through...
