Roots Events Presents: Soma Tour Feat. Slam + H-Foundation New York City - TBA Warehouse Venue
More than a decade has passed since Slam last toured the U.S. Although many have tried over the years to get them back stateside, residencies at three of the UK’s best clubs (Pressure [The Arches], Return To Mono [Sub Club] and Fabric in London) as well as their work on music and their label involvement with Soma Records and Paragraph have kept them busy enough. But the relentless requests for performances and long awaited tours has finally hit at the perfect time, signaling the return of the Glasgow techno legends!
What started as one booking for Hipp-e and Halo’s Surface Records label party at the BPM festival in Playa Del Carmen 2013, quickly became a five date tour where ROOTS is collaborating with Soma Records and promoters in Playa Del Carmen, San Francisco, Denver, Chicago and New York to make their return epic!
Featuring: Slam (Soma Records / Glasgow) H-Foundation (Hipp-E & Halo / Surface) Tickets and details here.
"Life has been unfaithful And it all promised so so much I am a relic I am just a petrified cry Wheeled out once a year, a cenotaph souvenir The applause nails down my silence
La tristesse durera Scream to a sigh, to a sigh La tristesse durera Scream to a sigh, to a sigh
I see liberals I am just a fashion accessory People send postcards And they all hope I'm feeling well I retreat into self-pity, it's so easy Where they patronise my misery
La tristesse durera Scream to a sigh, to a sigh La tristesse durera Scream to a sigh, to a sigh
La tristesse durera Scream to a sigh, to a sigh La tristesse durera Scream to a sigh, to a sigh
I sold my medal It paid a bill It sells at market stalls Parades Milan catwalks Oh, the sadness will never go Will never go away Baby it's here to stay La tristesse durera Scream to a sigh, to a sigh
I used to love, love, love this song and was reminded of it when it popped up on shuffle this morning...
The waiting drove me mad You’re finally here and I’m a mess I take your entrance back Can't let you roam inside my head
I don’t want to take what you can give I would rather starve than eat your bread I would rather run but I cant walk Guess I’ll lay alone just like before I take the poor man's path I must refuse your test Push me and I will resist This behavior’s not unique
I don’t want to hear from those who know They can buy but can’t put on my clothes I don’t want to limp for them to walk Never would have known of me before I don’t want to be held In your debt I’ll pay it of in blood let, I be wed I’m already cut up an half dead I'll end up alone like I began Everything has chains Absolutely nothing’s changed Take my hand not my picture Spill my tincture I don’t want to take what you can give I would rather starve than eat your breast All the things that others want for me Can't buy what I want because its free Can't buy what I want because its free Can't be what you want because I’m… I ain't supposed to be just fun To live and die let it be doneI figure I’ll be damned All alone like I began
You can read all about the plagiarism suit here. Sucks how Harrison was so affected by the resulting lawsuit, that he was unable to write anything for a few months thereafter.
A bootleg album recorded during a jam session that McCartney walked in on while Lennon was producing Harry Nilsson's album "Pussy Cats" while he was in the throes of his "Lost Weekend". It's pretty fucking awful, which makes it so damn fucking awesome.
Tracklist:
"A Toot and a Snore" 0:27
"Bluesy Jam" 2:33
"Studio Talk" 2:40
The group plays a few bars of "Little Bitty Pretty One" by Thurston Harris, and John sings the first line but says he can't remember any more
"Lucille" 5:59
"Nightmares" 2:38
Actually the band is playing "Sleep Walk", the 1959 Santo & Johnny instrumental hit.
"Stand By Me" – 2:18
Mostly Lennon complaining about the sound in his headphones and reminiscing about how it was better half an hour ago.
"Stand By Me" 3:41
Lennon complains about the sound again, saying that it was better two hours ago.
"Stand By Me" 6:04
Because of Lennon's complaints, the studio has changed the
microphone levels on the recording itself (rather than the performers'
headphones), and most of the lead vocals can no longer be heard.
John Lennon and Yoko One co-hosted The Mike Douglas Show for a week in February of 1972 and had Chuck Berry as a guest. John and Chuck Berry jam out together for a few tunes.

An' I don't give a damn 'bout my bad reputation Oh no, not me, oh no, not me Not me, not me
For me, it doesn't really get any better than this. Recorded while they were still known as The Dust Brothers, this was released while I was most impressionable...

"You hear the new one by Jimi?" -- haha, yeah...that's a long-running joke by me and a mate...but there's a new album titled "People, Hell and Angels" that's coming out next March that's produced by Jimi's sound man Eddie Kramer. Below is Eddie talking about the new album and he plays a little of the lead single "Somewhere". Oh, and it would've been Jimi's 70th birthday today.

Can't get this tune out of my head. The glory years of trance, at least for me. Of course, I grew out of it upon discovering house, but I like to return to this era every now and then.
Been meaning to post this essential mix but kept forgetting...but now I'm remind by the most recent post by Greg Wilson on DJ Harvey's return to the UK.

· Squeal Like A Pig - This unique travel/cooking
series features Chef and Author David Chang making connections between
food and nature, science, music, art, sports, history and just about
anything else that he can stir up. In Montreal, David and Comedian Aziz
Ansari try Wilensky's famous fried bologna sandwich. In the kitchen,
David makes a "red-eye mayo;" his pastry chef shows how to make a salty
sugary late night snack--the corn cookie ham and cheese. Anthony
Bourdain narrates.
· Noodlin - Author and Chef David Chang visits a
noodle factory in Japan; eats the best bowl of ramen in his life; and,
cooks two incredible dishes with the instant ramen variety. Food
Scientist Harold McGee explains how alkaline salts make ramen noodles
unique. Anthony Bourdain narrates.
· Spain - In Spain, Author and Chef David Chang
explores the streets of San Sebastian with friend and legendary chef
Juan Marie Arzak. El Bulli's Ferran Adria talks about the current state
of cuisine. David prepares a salt cod omelet, and in honor of Adria, he
cooks a microwave sponge cake. Anthony Bourdain narrates.
· Memory Lane - Author and Chef David Chang revisits a
ramen shop in Japan, where he ate while apprenticing at a restaurant in
Tokyo. He also visits the Callaway Golf factory where, for the first
time in the 14 years since he threw his clubs off a cliff, he hits a
golf ball. Later, he prepares a cold Korean soup, naeng myung, that his
mother prepared for him and his father when they went golfing.
· Rotten - David Chang travels to San Sebastian,
Spain, to exhibit his experiment in rot: pork butabushi. His pastry chef
shows that the best flavor in a banana cream pie comes from rotten
bananas. Rene Redzepi cooks a "garbage plate" using potatoes left in the
ground months longer than what is considered fresh.
· The Sweet Spot -
· Simplicity - David Chang visits a sushi master in
Tokyo and a yakitori chef who has been grilling chicken for 30 years. In
the kitchen, David makes a simple chicken noodle soup.
· So You Think You Are A Chef - Wylie Dufresne cooks
carrot-coconut sunny-side up egg, Rene Redzepi cooks clam chowder and
David Chang cooks a buttermilk apple dashi. This series dares to make
connections between food and nature, science, music, art, sports,
history, and pretty much anything else a renowned chef can stir up.
· Phresh Vs. Phrozen - This program addresses various
theories of food preservation. In Japan, David Chang examines a
technique of killing fish, called ike jime, that inhibits rigor mortis.
In the kitchen, he cooks with space food, while his pastry chef makes a
corn cookie using freeze-dried ingredients.
· Japan - David Chang travels from Tokyo to Kyoto to
meet and eat with friends and to explore the different ingredients and
culinary techniques of the eastern world. He visits a street market in
Tokyo, a fish auction in Kyoto and finishes the trip at a Michelin
three-star restaurant, Kikunoi. In the kitchen, he cooks yakitori--or
Japanese grilled chicken.
Refreshed and returning to the fray in 2012 - Halo is coming out swinging. With brand new music on the way, the launch of his new label - Surface Records, and the return of the legendary H-Foundation outfit - his new mix should excite any true house music lover.
At their peak, H-Foundation DJ sets had clubbers worldwide re-evaluating what they could and would dance to.
'airpod 18 - Halo' is a selection of newer artists and labels which are moving him today. A club set featuring music from the likes of Subb-an, Shonky, Re-Up, Franck Roger, Anthea, 1Trax, One Records, Kina, Dumb Unit as well as, naturally, some H-Foundation material...
Our life together is so precious together
We have grown, we have grown
Although our love is still special
Let's take a chance and fly away somewhere alone
It's been too long since we took the time
No-one's to blame, I know time flies so quickly
But when I see you darling
It's like we both are falling in love again
It'll be just like starting over, starting over
Everyday we used to make it love
Why can't we be making love nice and easy
It's time to spread our wings and fly
Don't let another day go by my love
It'll be just like starting over, starting over
Why don't we take off alone
Take a trip somewhere far, far away
We'll be together all alone again
Like we used to in the early days
Well, well, well darling
It's been too long since we took the time
No-one's to blame, I know time flies so quickly
But when I see you darling
It's like we both are falling in love again
It'll be just like starting over, starting over
Our life together is so precious together
We have grown, we have grown
Although our love is still special
Let's take a chance and fly away somewhere
Employing the classic 'fish out of water' template as the basis for this series, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant exploit (for lack of a better word) the truly unique Karl Pilkington on a tour of the New Seven Wonders of the World (sans the Colosseum replaced with the Great Pyramids) for the Sky1 travel documentary "An Idiot Abroad". (For those in the States, the series is broadcast on the Science Channel.) The strength of the show and the only compelling reason to watch it is Pilkington, and his utterances and thoughts do not disappoint. Gervais and Merchant realize that there's no capital worth more than human capital, and we're lucky enough for them to share this one-off bit of humanity.
Below, you'll find and enjoy Episode 1 of Season 1.
