Per Se offers an a la carte menu

News of Per Se offering an a la carte menu has been making the rounds, and as such, reviews were surely to appear in the blogosphere. The author of NYC Tastes wrote up a nice review of her experience which you can check out here.

Here is the menu:

Sounds exactly like what you'd expect to get...which is a good thing.

Creedence Clearwater Revival: Up Around The Bend (live)

This is the good shit right here:

Lyrics:

There's a place up ahead and I'm goin' just as fast as my feet can fly
Come away, come away if you're goin', leave the sinkin' ship behind.

CHORUS:
Come on the risin' wind, we're goin' up around the bend.

Ooh!
Bring a song and a smile for the banjo, better get while the gettin's good,
Hitch a ride to the end of the highway where the neons turn to wood.

CHORUS

Oooh!
You can ponder perpetual motion, fix your mind on a crystal day,
Always time for a good conversation, there's an ear for what you say.

CHORUS

Yeah!
Oooh!

Catch a ride to the end of the highway and we'll meet by the big red tree,
There's a place up ahead and I'm goin', come along, come along with me.

CHORUS

Yeah!
Do do doo do...

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

I was just browsing through IMDB, and found out that an old children's book that I had read back in the day is being turned into a film. It's titled, "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs". And then I found out there's a trailer for it:

Cool.

Stevie Wonder on the Mike Douglas Show (1966)

Taped in 1966, Stevie Wonder performs two songs - "Uptight (Everything's Alright)" and "A Place in the Sun" - on The Mike Douglas Show. That makes him 16 years young. Amazing. They also talk a little about Stevie's blindness between songs, and it's rather eye-opening. Wait...it's rather insightful. Shit. You know what I mean...

This shit makes me happy.

Gui Boratto - Take My Breath Away

The super talented Gui Boratto is back with a new album titled "Take My Breath Away". Below, you'll find the first three tracks off the album. Electronic music with soul, I say. Much like a violist can place soul into a piece of wood, some have the ability to do that to a piece of metal and wires.

You can purchase the CD here.

Minetta Tavern's Black Label Burger

There's been much hoopla about Minetta Tavern's Black Label Burger ($26), and this post only adds to it. However, just now, I came across this excellent and thorough rundown of the inception to finish of the Black Label Burger @ Minetta Tavern, so I thought I'd share it with you.

Secrets of Minetta Tavern's Black Label Burger

I actually did dine at MT last night, but didn't get the burger. But I'll be back...

The Master Burger List Review Bonanza - Pt. 3 - Petey's Burger

It's been a few days/weeks since I've last written. Things have been a bit hectic, especially with my move and all...but I'm still trying to stay committed to this burger thing I've got going.

The next place I hit up was Petey's Burger, located in Astoria, Queens (30-17 30th Avenue), right off the N/W line.

Here's the facade, courtesy of Serious Eats:

Here's the menu for the joint:

The place gets a solid "A" for its burger and fries. I ordered the #2, and my friend got the Petey's Melt. We got it delivered to his apartment, and the service was prompt. The burgers were still warm and the fries were still crisp. Honestly, I think I prefer these fries over Shake Shack's. I don't know what it is, but the krinkle fries at Shake Shack have been going down in quality, at least in my mind.

In any case, I was fucking marvin', so I didn't have a chance to snap any pics. Again, courtesy of SE, here's a pic of the burger I ate:

If you're not into raw onions, make sure to order without.

Some people compare it to In-N-Out. I don't. Petey's FTW. Maybe it's the California sun, or maybe it's something in our water, but I much prefer Petey's.

So in closing, I give Petey's 4 thumbs up. It might even be worth a trip into an outer borough.

The Master Burger List Review Bonanza - Pt. 2 - Daddy-O

So somewhere between Second Avenue Deli and dinnertime, I got really, really, really drunk. But it's okay, because I was going for a garbage plate, and I don't know about you, but 99.5% of the time that I consumed a plate, I was tanked. The other .5%, I was unconscious.

Without deviating away from the plot, we (Cheese and I) made sure to order a burger. Long story short, the plate was not of the Rochester kind, and I didn't eat the burger until the next morning.

Apparently, we ordered 2 plates, a burger with tots, and a frankfuter...and a couple of Jameson's and PBR's to wash it all down.

This is what the table looked like after our order came (btw, we definitely did not order 2 plates, as we were going to share it, but somehow the waiter thought we did):

If you know your garbage plates, you know it don't look like that. All I can say is that I had one bite of it and did not have anymore. There was some type of bbq sauce slathered all over it. Wrong! It was pretty gross. I remember having a few tots, and those were great. I wish I had some right now. As for the burger, I woke up the next morning, and half a burger was in the fridge. It wasn't bad for a cold morning burger. I can't say how it tastes right out of the kitchen, but it did the trick the following morning after a serious drink-a-thon. Here's a close-up of it that was shot at the restaurant:

That's what it looks like when you're really, really drunk.

To wrap up another awesome review, this place does not make proper garbage plates. They're lying if they say do. As for the burger, I can't say. I guess the tots are a nice compliment. I was so dejected from the plate fiasco, I don't even give a shit about their burgers.

Next up on the Burger List Review Mania - Petey's Burger in Astoria.

Funny People (Trailer)

Coming out on July 31, 2009, Funny People stars Sandler, Seth Rogan, Eric Bana (who looks like Steve Lawler), RZA, Jonah Hill and J. Schwartzman, and is directed by Judd Apatow (Syosset High School represent!). Apatow's got this genre on lockdown, and this one's got home run written all over it.

Here's a video with Apatow, Ferrell, and Adam McKay to make this video a 2-for-2.

Telefon Tel Aviv - You Are The Worst Thing In The World (Sasha's Invol2ver Remix)

For this snowbound day:

I know that you’re an ocean
After the storm has come to stay..
I know that you’re the sun
After the sun has gone away..

I know that just the smallest part of the world belongs to me
You know.. I’m not a blind man but truth is the hardest thing to see

I know that you’re the worst thing in all of the world for me
I know that you’re the worst thing in all of the world for me

Telefon Tel Aviv

RIP Charlie Cooper

You can also puchase Sasha's mix album Invol2ver here. I really, really enjoyed the mix...except for the last track.
